Hey friends! If you're new around here, welcome! 👋
I'm Joseph Nielsen, the owner and craftsman here at Soot & Sawdust Co. I'm a Christian, a husband to Sarah, and dad to our four kids who keep life crazy for us 😅. I've been a volunteer firefighter for over ten years (that's the soot), and when I'm not on a call, you'll find me in the shop (that's the sawdust).
My love for woodworking started when I was a kid in my grandpa's workshop. He would help me build little projects in his cool red shop building that he had built himself behind his house. I always loved the smell of wood that would hit you the moment you walked through the door.
My why is simple: I want to build furniture that lasts, the kind families gather around and generations keep gathering around. That's why we focus on dining sets. Every table we build is designed to become part of the home it ends up in. We work with families who care about quality and creating a space where people can slow down and connect.

Yes. The styles above are a starting point. Send us a photo or sketch of what you have in mind and we'll talk through what's possible.
How long does a custom table take?
It depends on the size and design and on what's already in the queue. You'll get a build timeline with your quote before you commit to anything.
What wood and finishes can I choose?
We work with a range of hardwoods and stains, from light natural tones to deep walnut-colored finishes, plus painted bases.
Do you sell chairs?
Yes! Just mention it in your request and we'll put together chairs to go with your table.
Do you deliver?
Yes! Delivery cost depends on distance, and we'll include it in your quote.
How do I care for my table?
Wipe up spills promptly, use coasters and trivets for hot dishes, and clean with a damp cloth and mild soap.
